Terra Nova, the Sports and Arts Youth Centre of Montréal Youth for Christ is officially open for business.
The outside of the building, which once housed St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and was bought by West Island Baptist Church in the early 1970s, has not changed. But since the Baptist group gave their building to YFC in April 2003, the interior has undergone some radical renovations.
The pews were sold and the platform removed to transform the sanctuary into a gymnasium. The front wall is now a climbing wall, and the floor is lined with standard markings for basketball and hockey.
The basement has been remodeled with a kitchen, lounge, arts centre and offices.

Every week we dedicate a few hours to spend some time with young people playing hockey and hanging out with them. Every Monday night, we run a session for high school age teens and elementary school age kids. We started our third ?season? this fall and we have averaged around 25-30 kids a night. Depending on how many people come out, we split the group in teams and have mini tournaments with playoffs and even shootouts! We also incorporate a short talk during a break halfway through the night during which we try to engage these young people in conversations which deal with real-life issues. It's an open environment where all are welcome and although floor hockey is the main reason we get together, anyone who just wants to come and hang out with us at the snack bar is more than welcome. So far it's been a blast and it's only going to get better! For more information about Monday Night Floor Hockey, please contact us.
