Chateauguay Youth Unlimited's newest endeavor has officially been launched! Project Renaissance (in collaboration with World Vision & Education Plus) is an initiative to break the cycle of child poverty in our region... Through preventative work, hands-on training, mentoring relationships, and our very own accredited Alternative school- we are helping those who have seemingly slipped through the cracks realize their dreams for the future.  Only a year old- Project Renaissance is already making a difference! Please feel free to browse our website for more information and to learn how to get involved in this exciting "Project".

Project Renaissance- An overview...

Chateauguay, Quebec

By the very nature of what we do at Station 7/Options, our center is mostly filled with young people from low income areas where crime and violence too often prevail. Poverty and violence is a difficult cycle to break- a young girl gets pregnant, she quits school, goes on welfare, the child is raised in less than ideal conditions, the child becomes a teenager searching for love, and the cycle starts all over again. We want to help young people break this cycle and come to understand their unlimited worth. Because of this, we have launched Project Renaissance- a new initiative for the Chateauguay area in collaboration with World Vision's "Partners to End Child Poverty".

Today, maybe more than ever, there is an incredible need for adult involvement in young people's lives. Young people need mentoring and guidance as they try and make sense of the issues impacting their lives today. This is especially true when the young person finds themselves in a cycle of poverty.Through the Renaissance program, Youth Unlimited staff provides young people with mentors to assist in them in the development of crucial life-skills and helps them to overcome barriers not immediately evident to those who have not dealt with the challenges of poverty themselves.

The goal of the program is to provide young people with the opportunity and support to move to the next level in their personal development. Successful participants will demonstrate self-directness in setting and achieving several appropriate goals (educational, mental, spiritual, or physical). The program will target youth in the community that are marginalized in terms of a lack of life-skills and education required to fully participate in mainstream society. Our projected goal is 150 participants over a three year period, or 10 to 15 per three month cycle.
