The local church, summer camps, YU, other ministry organizations, and individuals living out their faith in Christ, form some of the layers God uses to accomplish His work. Combining with our Terra Nova youth centre in the West Island, our school-based ministry provides an additional layer towards an effective impact in kids? lives.
Our staff divide their time - part of it in a school and the other part involved in Terra Nova or La Corde. Our vision is to increase the layers of impact on a kid?s life (those in our current ministry sphere and those God will bring into our path), by developing more contact points where they?ll ?brush shoulders? with people who know Christ. Our school programs involve both sharing Christ with students who don?t know Him personally, and teaming with Christian students; encouraging a growing relationship with God in their lives and working together to reach their peers for Christ. We exist to help students as they cope with serious life issues, encouraging them to make healthy and well thought - out decisions in all areas of their lives. Above all we want them to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ as the foundation for their lives. Our staff are reaching into the High Schools and Elementary Schools; into the lives of students in many varied and creative ways: Lunch Hour Discussions encourage students to share their opinions, and hear what their peers have to say on youth related issues. Each discussion is concluded with practical and biblical information from the staff. Teaching Moral and Religious classes in many Elementary Schools and one alternative education program. Student Evangelism - Christian students are mobilized to pray, are equipped and encouraged to share their faith. They work together with our staff in planning and running outreach events in their schools. Drama presentations, Christian rock groups, special guests, and video presentations ?cast a wider net? to hundreds of students at lunch hour and in assemblies.
Getting Involved ? coaching teams, tutoring, chaperoning events or trips, assisting in classes. Proverbs 16:9 tells us that "in his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." Our dreams and visions for the schools include increased M.R.E. class involvement, expansion into more schools (especially French schools), expansion in our work with alternative education programs, a parent's prayer group for each school, and more staff.
